Jamaica is sometimes referred to as the “fairest land of wood and water” and has attracted millions of visitors each year. There are some popular resort areas that travelers are more drawn to, these areas are Montego Bay, Kingston, Ocho Rios, Negril, Port Antonio and Mandeville and the South Coast.
Montego Bay
This resort town is classified as the tourism capital of Jamaica and is the island second city. If you are looking for the complete resort, this town offers all the best of Jamaica, from flawless beaches, gaming lounges, well known golf courses, luxury hotels and a lovely strip that has numerous restaurants, night life, entertainment and shopping, with prices to match every preference and budget. Montego Bay also has one of the country’s international airport and cruise ship terminals.
Kingston
This resort area is referred to as the heartbeat of Jamaica and has features that cannot be found in other resort towns and is the capital of Jamaica. This parish is protected by the Blue Mountains to the north and has the one of the largest natural harbors in the world to the south. Kingston provides numerous activities such as cultural, historical, natural and recreational experiences. This is the home for most business head offices, entrepreneurial and educational associations, entertainment facilities and the place where the Prime Minister and Governor General resides. Kingston also has most of the Universities and Colleges that can be found on the island and is home to one of the international airports on the island.
Ocho Rios
Ocho Rios is located in the garden parish of St. Ann and is said to have eight rivers. This resort town is referred to as the centerpiece of Jamaica, featuring gardens, affluent caves, white sand beaches and rivers. The name Ocho Rios means “waterfalls” and is the home to one of the celebrated spots in Jamaica which is Dunn’s River Falls. This resort has a lot visitors returning to experience this pictorial resort with its romantic offerings and also to participate in the many activities that is offered such as water sports, adventure tours and golf.
Negril
Negril is “capital of casual” or “do as you please” resort in Jamaica. This town is located on the western side of the island and is known for its striking sunsets and pleasantly laid back atmosphere. The big highlight of this town is the seven miles stretch of white sand beach, with various spots offering entertainment in the form of the live reggae music that you can enjoy while basking in the sun.
Port Antonio
Another one of Jamaica’s natural beauty this resort town was where tourism started in Jamaica. You can find Port Antonio on the eastern side of the island with its lush mountainside and welcoming blue waters. Mandeville and the South Coast
This resort area is not quite like the other resort towns; they cater more to community tourism and this area is often referred to as “off the beaten track”. From the cool hills of Manchester which is a haven for English visitors to the flat areas of St. Elizabeth in the South Coast.
