Jamaica has a rich cultural heritage and offers numerous attractions where you get to capture the history, traditions and customs of this island.
There is an attraction located in Falmouth that offers unique activities that is enjoyed by locals and visitors. This is the Outameni Experience, one of Jamaica’s newest attractions and has being seeing tremendous growth. This attraction has features such as art, music, dance, drama, film and offers true Jamaican cuisine. This experience will take on a ninety minute voyage that takes place on five acres of land and will entice your senses on this colorful journey.
There is a place in Kingston called Things Jamaican, which features Jamaican products such as liqueurs, jerk seasonings, rums, jellies, arts and crafts. This was a place established along with the help from the Jamaican government with the aim of promoting the growth of the Arts and Crafts. When you visit this attraction you get learn about the rich history of the foods and other items that are authentic Jamaican.
The Royal Palm Reserve can be found in the resort town of Negril and offers an excellent stop for visitors who are interested in history and learning about plants. The Royal Palm reserve is one of the protected areas and is located in the wetlands of Negril. This attraction has a museum which follows the course of Jamaica’s history from before Christopher Columbus time all the way through to the various developments that took place on the island. The features of this reserve is the natural springs, gardens, waterfalls, birds, reptiles, butterflies and turtles, all of which can be enjoyed through nature tours and walks.
One of the more popular tours that exist on the island also is the Bob Marley Tour, which offers visitors the chance to view his birthplace. This is a special tour for all the reggae lovers worldwide and they get to travel the Jamaican countryside with it’s out of the world scenery on their way to Nine Miles in St. Ann. Various elements that were used by Bob Marley can be found at this attraction which also has a museum.
One cannot visit Jamaica for its history and not stop at Kingston, which is considered the heartbeat of the island. After the earthquake at Port Royal in 1962, persons took refuge in this part of the island and later in 1872; it was established as the Jamaica’s capital. Kingston is now the center of Jamaica activities in the form of economic, social and cultural and just walking the streets in this town you will gain knowledge of the rich culture and history of this country. Most of the history can be found in the downtown areas which have historical monuments, buildings and sites. There are other areas in Kingston that features historical information such as the museums and landmarks.
Another interesting town with good history is Spanish Town which was Jamaica’s first capital. You can find Spanish town just fourteen miles west of Kingston. The old town square is constructed in the Georgian architectural design and contains various places of historical interest including museums, such as the Arawak Museum in Central Village.
